In 1888 Van Gogh produced âOleanders'. Van Gogh believed oleanders were joyous and life affirming flowers as they bloomed throughout the year. The Oleanders were depicted in a majolica jug which Van Gogh used for other still lifes and included Ămile Zola's 'La joie de vivre', a novel that he enjoyed.
