Masterpiece, 1962 Poster by Roy Lichtenstein
At the time, Lichtenstein was entertaining himself with the title, but this really is his masterpiece. This large poster reproduces this mould-breaking Pop Art work, featuring a blonde woman talking to her boyfriend ‘Brad’, the heroic character Lichtenstein incorporated into a number of his paintings. Lichtenstein included a thought bubble, a convention of comic book art, to create a narrative between the two subjects. The artist used the Ben Day dots printing process which involves small coloured dots being closely, widely spaced, or overlapped onto a canvas. The dots are printed using the CMYK colour model which includes only four ink plates in cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black).
