Helmut Jahn: State of Illinois Center / James R Thompson Center Chicago poster
This rather fab poster celebrates Helmut Jahn's postmodern 80s masterstroke: the State of Illinois Centre, Chicago, these days known as the James R. Thompson Center.
Jahn (1940 -2021) found inspiration in the work of Mies van der Rohe, but wasn't obsessed with sticking to the doctrine of modernism. His architectural style shifted towards postmodernism with hi-tec details and the building on this poster established his reputation in 1985. The project garnered attention worldwide and led to him being nicknamed 'Flash Gordon'!
